Infested: A Brutal Display Font
It was the final day of a product launch campaign, and the team was scrambling to finalize the visual assets. The client wanted something bold, something that would stand out in a sea of digital noise. That’s when I reached for Infested—a display font with a raw, almost post-apocalyptic aesthetic. It wasn’t just about style; it was about making a statement that resonated with the target audience.
Visual Style and Personality
Infested has a distinct personality. Its scratched, jagged edges and uneven strokes evoke a sense of chaos, as if the typeface itself has survived a brutal encounter. This isn’t a font for subtle messaging—it’s for attention-grabbing headlines, eye-catching logos, and high-impact visuals. The font feels like it’s been through a zombie attack, but it’s still standing, defiant and unapologetic.
Its design is ideal for campaigns that want to communicate intensity, urgency, or rebellion. Whether it's a limited-time offer, a new product teaser, or a brand rebrand, Infested adds a layer of edginess that can elevate a design from ordinary to unforgettable.
Real Campaign Use Cases
During the campaign, we used Infested for a variety of visuals. On social media, it worked well as a headline for Instagram posts and YouTube thumbnails. The font’s aggressive look made it perfect for grabbing attention in a fast-scrolling feed. For a webinar banner, Infested added a sense of energy and excitement, making the event feel more urgent and compelling.
We also used it in email promotions and landing pages. The font’s strong presence helped create visual hierarchy, drawing the reader’s eye to key messages without overwhelming them. In one instance, we paired it with a clean sans serif font for the body text, allowing the headline to command attention while keeping the rest of the content readable.
Readability and Practical Considerations
While Infested is visually striking, its readability can be a challenge in certain contexts. On mobile screens, especially in small previews or thumbnails, the font’s irregular shapes can make it harder to read at a glance. For this reason, we reserved it for short headlines, callouts, and logo-style text rather than long paragraphs or dense information.
When using Infested on dark backgrounds, the contrast was sharp and effective. On light backgrounds, the font maintained enough detail to remain legible. However, in fast-scrolling feeds or image overlays, it required careful placement to avoid distracting the viewer.
Font Pairing and Design Integration
Infested pairs best with clean, modern typography. We often used it alongside a sans serif font for body text, which created a nice balance between the bold, chaotic headline and the more structured, readable content. A serif font could also work well for a more traditional yet edgy look, depending on the brand’s identity.
In one case, we used Infested as the primary font for a branded template pack, combining it with a handwritten font for a more personal touch. The result was a cohesive set of design assets that felt both professional and creative.
Best Use Cases and Limitations
Infested excels in short-form, high-impact scenarios. It’s perfect for sale announcements, product teasers, quote graphics, and campaign labels. Its unique style makes it ideal for branding that wants to stand out, especially in industries like gaming, music, or fashion.
However, it’s not suited for long copy, formal corporate communication, or anything requiring a lot of text. In those cases, a more traditional font would be a better choice. Also, because of its intricate details, it may not render perfectly in all file formats or platforms, so checking compatibility is essential before finalizing a design.
Before using Infested in any campaign, we always checked the available styles, alternates, and ligatures. These features allowed us to fine-tune the font’s appearance, ensuring it met the project’s specific needs. We also verified the licensing terms to make sure it was suitable for commercial use, including ads, templates, and merchandise.
